Restoring the World
In the
Jewish tradition of Lurianic Kabbalah, there is a great myth
which has been given new meaning for our time in the work of Michael Lerner and other
contemporary teachers. It tells of how the original vessels formed by
the Creator could not contain the intensity of the light poured into them, but
shattered, so that the light was dispersed throughout the universe, much of it
obscured by countless husks, the shards of the vessels. The task of
finding and reuniting all the multitude of traces or sparks of that light which
is hidden within our world and ourselves, freeing and raising them up again, is called
Tikkun Olam , or the Restoration of the World.

I'm impressed with Michael Lerner's vision, which unites spirit and social justice in such an inclusive and comprehensive way. Read about it here:
