Social Change & Politics
Montgomery County Green Party ~ There is good reason to be cynical about electoral politics, especially on a large scale, but in local races, something can still be accomplished. Getting involved is a great way to make connections with other people who share our concerns, and to learn through our efforts to do something about them.
Global Justice ~ The movement that emerged in Seattle continues to grow and develop. It's broad and very decentralized, with a great number of organizations and small groups participating. Learn more at this website.
Jubilee USA Network ~ A network of very solid, mainly faith-based organizations, who are working to confront the global debt crisis, to free the poor nations of the crippling debts they owe to rich countries and institutions. An excellent website for background information to understand this problem: check out their Beginner's Guide.
50 Years Is Enough: U.S. Network for Global Economic Justice ~ "a coalition of over 200 U.S. grassroots, women's, solidarity, faith-based, policy, social - and economic- justice, youth, labor and development organizations dedicated to the profound transformation of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF)."
Positive Force DC ~ I learned about this activist young people's group when one of its founders and leaders, Mark Anderson, was my fellow parishioner at St. Aloysius church. They come out of the punk movement, and are devoted to the struggle for social justice in our city and world. "We believe in the power of young people to change the world."
